APS Snapshots Snapshots Looks Back at Summer Reading Initiative, Looks Forward to New School Year

In the first episode of Snapshots for the 2014-15 school year, Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy talks to students about what excites them most about school as they return to the classroom next week. He also talks to families who attended the “Camping Out: Reading In” event held in early August, to highlight how students benefited from their participation in the APS summer reading initiative. Let’s Keep Students Safe as They Head Back to School

Students in Arlington and across Virginia are heading back to school next week, and most students will be walking, biking, and riding the bus to school daily. Arlington County Police Chief Doug Scott and Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy have teamed up to remind the community about keeping students safe and secure while walking to and from school.  More Seats for Students Help Shape the Future of Our Schools

This fall, APS will host a series of community workshops and provide other engagement opportunities on upcoming capital planning efforts. The community is invited to participate and provide feedback on how APS can build additional capacity to accommodate increasing enrollment at all levels. As we begin, help APS understand the best ways to include you in the process by completing an online survey (en español) and reviewing the options that are being discussed. (More)

Green Scene APS Goes Green

APS recognizes the importance of being active stewards in protecting the environment and integrates one of its core values, sustainability, in programs throughout the district. Student Recognitions The School Board honored several students for their accomplishments outside of the classroom. Student recognitions included Virginia Science Fair winners; the Intel Science and Engineering Fair winner; Scholastic Arts and Writing winners and SkillsUSA.
Connect w/Kids  The Board honored the five Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth and Families Connect with Kids Champions.
